Advanced classes at Rine Karate Studio are designed to prepare the student for their black belt test.  Students build on all the basics learned through the previous ranks.  Ironically, advanced students work on basics as much as beginner students do.  The difference is that, at this advanced level, students are expected to perform these techniques faster, stronger and with pinpoint accuracy and concentration.

In addition to the basics, students learn more difficult katas, kicks, strikes and footwork.  They also learn to react quickly while performing these techniques.  Instructors emphasize extreme focus, exact body position and pushing one’s body weight into all blocks and strikes.  Advanced students spar at a much faster, stronger pace but are still expected to use control.

Finally, Mr. Rine believes that, as in any other sport, a good martial artist needs to be strong mentally.  He expects advanced students to develop patience and discipline.  They learn how to stay calm under pressure, applying their training to different situations.  A physically gifted student who is mentally weak may not react properly in a real life self-defense situation.  Mr. Rine’s ultimate goal is to ensure his students can apply their martial arts knowledge in the most effective way, whether it’s talking their way out of a fight or doing what it takes to save your life.
