A STRONG HOUSE IS BUILT ON A SOLID FOUNDATION . . .

Beginner classes at Rine Karate Studio are designed to build strong fundamental basic techniques.  New white belt students are taught to respect the studio, the instructors and their fellow students.  They are also taught basic blocks, kicks, strikes, stances and footwork.  Instructors emphasize proper breathing, body position, focus, when to relax and how to use muscle tension.  Constant repetition of the basic techniques is the only way a student will build a strong foundation for the advanced techniques that will follow.

Students with the rank of gold belt and higher learn katas, which are a predetermined series of movements against imaginary attackers.  Each progressive rank requires a more difficult kata.  Students will also learn basic self-defense techniques against chokes, strikes and grabs.

As students transition from beginner to intermediate they are still expected to perform all the basic techniques but will be taught more specialized techniques that require better balance, increased body control and focus.  Intermediate students also begin to move with footwork while performing these techniques.  New self-defense techniques are taught including throws, sweeps and takedowns.  With each progressive rank, the testing requirements become more difficult.

Intermediate classes are designed to show that each technique has a definite connection.  As the student perfects one, they can learn the next one more easily.   The classes also include periods of physical conditioning that are designed to develop endurance, strength, and flexibility while enhancing the basic techniques.

Students with the rank of gold belt and higher spar with other students, using the basic techniques they’ve learned.  Since student safety is a top priority at Rine Karate Studio, all students are required to wear protective equipment and are taught to use control while sparring.  All sparring is done under strict supervision of the instructors.

And, as always, Mr. Rine and his instructors create a positive atmosphere, one in which the student can prosper at their own pace, learn valuable lessons and develop confidence while learning to defend themselves.
